That's What Happens When You Aren't Quite Lucid
I hate that I absolutely have to write about American Idol again.
Once again I will refrain from picking on any particular contestant and instead pick on the judges. The majority of the show stuck to its usual formula: Randy either told people "That was HOT!" or "I don't know, man...", Kara always killed the mood of the song or said something that made you want to take a shower, Paula thought everyone was the best singer in the world, and Simon couldn't wait for most of them to get off the stage.
But then, after the final contestant sang, came the best part ever in eight seasons: Simon Cowell drew a mustache on Paula Abdul with a black marker! And she sat there and let him!
Now, there are two major points of fascination here. Number one: after all this time, Simon seems to have recently come either to a new level of loathing for Paula or has finally chosen to really let loose with every urge he ever has to torture her on live television. Number two: Paula sat very still for the decorating of her face but was then fully humiliated when she had a moment of clarity that allowed her to realize we could all see it! Maybe she was shocked into reality when she saw that the sixteen-year-old girl on stage felt uncomfortably sorry for her. Maybe that was the exact moment her sedative of choice wore off. But, really? Either you comply and then deal with the consequences gracefully or you don't allow something like that to happen! Obviously Simon knows Paula very well and is chosing to prey on her weaknesses until she gives up and they go back to a three judge format next season. I just wonder if he has planned ahead far enough to think about how he will like sitting next to Kara.
