Can't Win For Losing
First I must note that I had this entry half written in my head while I was waiting for the page to load when my husband decided to behave like a five-year-old throwing sand and pester me until I forgot everything I was going to say. So if this sucks, it's E's fault.
I had mentioned to my scheduling manager at work last week that my babysitting situation was going to be changing and I would let her know what changes I was going to need to make once I figured everything out. She was fine with that. So today, I told her that I needed to discuss my schedule with her when she had a minute. She said I should just write it down because it would be easier that way. So I did. I wrote down what was no longer possible for me and what the ideal adjustments would be and labeled them as such. A while later, after she had a chance to look it over, I asked her if it was going to work okay for her. Her response? "Well, do I have any choice? I mean, I'm just sayin'..." Now, actually, she did have a choice. A couple of them, in fact. Option 1: Accept new schedule. Option 2: Refuse new schedule and fire me. Option 3: Refuse new schedule and discuss alternative hours that may accommodate both parties better. Interestingly enough, I originally tried to steer her toward 'Option 3' by requesting time to discuss my schedule with her! I was really bothered by her comment that seemed to imply that I thought I was in charge. I must fairly state that I like this manager and have no problems with her. I even did the mature thing and approached her calmly later to reiterate that if this new schedule was not acceptable, I would certainly be willing to do my best to come up with another solution. She seemed at that point to have no problem with my changes. So I guess I'll just chalk it up to one too many teenagers telling her they just didn't feel like working weekends anymore. This particular exchange just happened to be the most memorable portion of my day, so I'm sharing it with the masses.

p.s. For some reason, the SpellCheck on this thing always insists that when I type the word "okay", I must instead mean "orgy". There's another little gem for y'all to ponder!
