It's Hard To Type With A Dog In Your Lap

Saturday morning, E and I made a decision to go look at a puppy that had caught our eye online that was adoptable from a local animal shelter.  She turned out to be possibly the sweetest dog ever face-to-face.  She put her head on my shoulder and cuddled.  I put her down and she immediately walked over to E and sat down tall and proud beside him, head erect, showing what a good dog she would be.  That combined with how gentle she was with our kids ensured that she came home with us within the hour.
Since we brought her home, I have been quite certain that we made the right call.  She fit in immediately and is adjusting quite well.  She spends a lot of time cuddling on our laps... a practice that will soon be difficult.  She is a Pointer.  She is not yet 3 months old and already weighs roughly 15 pounds.  I am looking down at her on my lap as I type right now and laughing as I picture her in the same position when she is full grown and takes up nearly as much of the chair as I do!
We have named her Starbuck.  Yes, both references are intentional (the coffee chain is more commonly recognized, but the primary intention is to reference the Battlestar Galactica viper pilot).  This is what happens when overcaffeinated geeks name a dog.  She already seems to actually know her name, perking up much quicker when I say "Starbuck!" versus, say, "Cracker!" or "Norwegian Wood!"  Also, she has only had one accident today, and that was only because I got too involved with finding reasonably priced heartworm prevention medication online... I just found out that heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes!  Lame!  We get mutant mosquitoes here!  You can bet your acid-washed jeans I won't be missing a single dose of that stuff!
I have a lot to learn about dog ownership, but I think she is going to be a patient and wonderful member of the family as I try to absorb all the information I can.  Heck, I've been parenting by the seat of my pants for years now... they seem to be okay so far.  Speaking of which, Ladybug is going to be three years old tomorrow!  Happy birthday, sweet girl!

p.s.  E, I forgot to tell you:  Baby Duck gave Starbuck a middle name.  "Angel".
